Welcome to the Archives and Special Collections of the University of Ottawa

The Archives and Special Collections acquires, preserves, and provides access to archival documents in all media formats as well as rare books and other publications that support teaching and research at the University of Ottawa. We are open to the public as well as the University community.

Use our AtoM database to browse our collections and fonds and discover the records of individuals and organizations involved in the women's movements and feminist activism in Canada (Women's Archives), the Slovak community in Canada and the United States (Slovak Archives), and French literary history and other topics (Literary and Other Archives).

Note on Content and Language:

The material held within the Archives and Special Collections (ARCS) may include emotionally challenging and potentially triggering content and language, often relating to systems of oppression that activists were working to end, such as violence against women, misogyny, racism, and homophobia. Users may encounter offensive or harmful language and content, including content that is racist, sexist, ableist, transnegative, homophobic, or that demeans individuals' humanity in other ways.

ARCS aims to describe archival materials in a manner that is respectful to individuals and communities that create, use, and are represented in fonds and collections. Staff also strive to make in-person and online spaces safe for researchers. We are currently working to flag graphic or intense content, including through content warnings in the Notes fields.

Please contact us if you encounter problematic descriptions and material requiring content/trigger warnings by emailing arcs@uottawa.ca. We welcome your feedback.
