Sociologue et travailleuse sociale de formation, Cécile Coderre a débuté sa carrière à l’Université d’Ottawa en 1983. Elle a occupé des postes de professeure de sociologie, de professeure et de directrice de l’École de service sociale (1998-2003) et de vice-doyenne de la Faculté des sciences sociales. Elle s’est intéressées aux questions relatives à la violence faite aux femmes, au mouvement des femmes francophones vivant en contexte minoritaires, aux approches féministes et communautaires d’intervention de même qu’aux rapports des femmes à l’État. Elle s’est intéressée aussi à la sociologie du travail et de la famille, plus spécifiquement aux femmes gestionnaires des grandes entreprises privées et publiques. Elle est co-auteure de Femmes de carrière, carrières de femmes (PUO). Elle a coédité, dans le cadre des activités de célébration du cinquantième anniversaire de la publication du Deuxième sexe, l’ouvrage Le deuxième sexe. Une relecture en trois temps 1949-1971-1999. Dans son rôle de vice-doyenne aux études et secrétaire elle a stimulé et soutenu la création de nouveaux programmes innovateurs, sensibles aux préoccupations liées aux nouveaux enjeux socio-politiques. Elle a aussi mis sur pied des projets pour enrichir l’expérience étudiante. Parallèlement à sa carrière universitaire, Cécile Coderre est engagée au sein de nombreuses associations vouées au développement communautaire et au bien-être des femmes.

A sociologist and social worker by training, Cécile Coderre began her career at the University of Ottawa in 1983. She has held positions as Professor of Sociology, Professor and Director of the School of Social Work (1998-2003) and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. She has worked on issues related to violence against women, the Francophone women's movement in minority contexts, feminist and community-based approaches to intervention, and women's relationships with the state. She is also interested in the sociology of work and family, more specifically in women managers in large private and public companies. She is co-author of Femmes de carrière, carrières de femmes (PUO). As part of the activities to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of Le Deuxième sexe, she co-edited the book Le deuxième sexe. Une relecture en trois temps 1949-1971-1999. In her role as Associate Dean of Studies and Secretary, she has stimulated and supported the creation of new and innovative programs, sensitive to the concerns of emerging socio-political issues. She also initiated projects to enrich the student experience. In addition to her academic career, Cécile Coderre is involved in numerous associations dedicated to community development and women's welfare.
