This fonds consists of Wendy McPeake's personal files. It is composed mainly of textual records from the late 1970s to the early 1980s. It contains files related to her involvement in various groups and organizations such as the Ottawa Women’s Centre, the Political Action Collective, the Feminist Action Collective, the Local 7/SORWUC, and the Public Service Alliance of Canada Women’s Committee. It includes materials related to feminist publishers from Canada and the United States, collected by Wendy McPeake when she was arts coordinator for Upstream magazine. The fonds also contains various subject files that reflect Wendy McPeake’s interests during this period. The 1970s was an active period for feminist organizations, especially at the grass-roots level, where a rich feminist culture of politics, music, publishing, and art flourished. Thus, this fonds offers insight into the Women’s Movement in Ottawa, mostly during the late 1970s to the early 1980s.

This collection contains oral history interviews with women in Canada who have made a significant impact on the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. In the interviews, these experts not only provided divergent perspectives on the field, but also on feminism, racial justice, and STEM’s role in achieving and/ or preventing social equity. Taken together, these interviews have tremendous historical value as an archive of women’s experience in STEM, from the final decades of the 20th century until our present moment, and they help us understand what it was like to learn and to work in male-dominated environments which were potentially encouraging, or potentially hostile, to women.

Ce collection contient des entretiens d'histoire orale avec des femmes au Canada qui ont eu un impact significatif dans les domaines des sciences, de la technologie, de l'ingénierie et des mathématiques. This fonds provides insight into how women in non-traditional work were coping in the 1980s in the Toronto area. The records show how the women in this organization struggled to have their voice heard in the federal and provincial arena. There are significant federal and provincial correspondence that highlights the issues of pay equity, child care legislation and Canadian Human rights actions. The records include correspondence, membership and funding records as well as reports, conference material and newsletters. There are also photographs showing women working in trades.
