Greta Hofmann Nemiroff fonds

This fonds consists of administrative records and resource materials produced and received as part of the various position occupied by Greta Hofmann Nemiroff, including her time as project manager of the CCLOW, president-elected at CWSA, educator and coordinator of New School at Dawson College, and incumbent of the joint chair in Women’s Studies program at the University of Ottawa, and Carleton University. This fonds contains mostly textual records, including correspondence, documents relating to conferences organization, mailing lists, booklets and pamphlets produced by the organization in which she was involved. This fonds offer an insight into the Great Hofmann Nemiroff involvement in women’s liberation movement in the 1980s and 1990s, mostly in the field of education.

This fonds consists of Wendy McPeake's personal files. It is composed mainly of textual records from the late 1970s to the early 1980s. It contains files related to her involvement in various groups and organizations such as the Ottawa Women’s Centre, the Political Action Collective, the Feminist Action Collective, the Local 7/SORWUC, and the Public Service Alliance of Canada Women’s Committee. It includes materials related to feminist publishers from Canada and the United States, collected by Wendy McPeake when she was arts coordinator for Upstream magazine. The fonds also contains various subject files that reflect Wendy McPeake’s interests during this period. The 1970s was an active period for feminist organizations, especially at the grass-roots level, where a rich feminist culture of politics, music, publishing, and art flourished. Thus, this fonds offers insight into the Women’s Movement in Ottawa, mostly during the late 1970s to the early 1980s.

This fonds consists of administrative and organizational documents, correspondence, galley proofs, financial records, original manuscripts and galley proofs, flyers, handbills, pamphlets, postcards, subscriber lists and information, planning documents from the Canadian Feminist Periodicals Conference 1986, two computer diskettes, and one metal telephone index pad. There are also separate files from several individual employees which include correspondence and items relating to their particular role in the collective.

These records offer significant information about feminist journalism in Canada, and about activities in the women’s movement, particularly in Toronto, during the 1980s.

The Montreal Health Press fonds reflects the operations of a small, volunteer-run feminist collective, focussed on disseminating information on health and sexuality. The fonds documents the steps involved in print book production: it includes authors’ draft chapters, interview schedules and author contracts.

The records also reflect the collective's extensive promotional activities, including fund-raising programs, reviews of handbooks, promotional articles and anniversary-year publicity. Letters of support from subscribers testify to the publications’ impact on individual lives and sexual health. The fonds also shows the extensive orders and invoices for handbooks from North American health clinics and organizations.

The photographs and drawings reflect the work of numerous artists. Medical drawings–in ink, pencil and graphite–provide detail on sexual health and anatomy. The photographs represent individuals, couples, and groups of different ethnicity, ages and sexual orientation.

The fonds documents the general organization of the publishing press and activities of its different collectives. It contains manuscripts of published texts with records related to the selection, illustration, edition, and publication process. It also includes some unpublished manuscripts with related correspondence. The fonds contains also financial records and documents the distribution process. To promote women authors and their literary works, the publishing house participated in various book fairs and conferences. The press also produced catalogues, press releases, flyers, and posters, preserved in the fonds. The last series consists of Maureen FitzGerald's records. They concern the period when Maureen FitzGerald worked as managing editor of the Women's Press.

During her career, Valerie Overend has developed several programs and guides to encourage girls and young women to pursue non-traditional careers. The collection Valerie Overend consists of resource materials related to women engaged in non-traditional careers, as well as in the fields of science, technology, and engineering. These materials were used by Valerie in her own research and work to produce informational and educational materials. This collection mainly consists of textual documents and videos. It includes publications, training programs, curricula, workshop materials, survey and reports, and essays. Some documents have been created by/or in collaboration with Valerie Overend. However, most of the documents have been produced by other authors and related organizations.
