Biographical history

Lynda Yanz was a feminist and socialist activist focused primarily on the rights of women workers and the working class. Yanz was also involved in the Marxist-Leninist movement, and her records suggest that she sought to bring these movements together in solidarity through her role in feminist organizations like the Vancouver Women's Research Centre and the International Women's Day Committee. Yanz was also involved with the Marxist-Leninist group In Struggle!, and collected their important documents and periodicals. Lynda Yanz currently is the Executive Director for Maquila Solidarity Network, a labour and women's rights organization supporting workers in the global garment and footwear industry, which she co-founded in 1993.

Scope and content

This fonds consists of documents created and collected by Lynda Yanz as a feminist and activist for the working class. Documents are related to her activities within the Women's Research Centre in Vancouver, the International Women's Day Committee in Vancouver, The International Women's Day Committee in Toronto and the In Struggle Group and periodical. It contains minutes of meetings, articles, reports, copies of the In Struggle! publication, and information about the relationship between socialism, communism, and feminism. This fonds also contains material related to labour union strikes by women workers, including hospital workers, factory workers, and postal workers.
