Scope and content

The original Pathmakers program was started in 1986. It was a partnership between the University of Ottawa, Carleton University, Algonquin College, and the four school boards in the Ottawa-Carleton district. In 1997, Monique Frize began to coordinate the activities, the fund-raising and the promotion of the program. The purpose of the program was to increase the interest of female high school students in non-traditional areas of study. The project brought together female high school students and a number of young women in post-secondary institutions who choose fields where women were under-represented. In 1997-1998, the program attracted over 250 volunteers.
