Administrative history

The Status of Women Office Carleton University was created to inform faculty, students and staff about status of women issues and to promote women’s equality in all arenas, especially in relation to women’s employment equity and their right to work and learn in an environment free from harassment and discrimination. Status of Women Officer positions were instituted across many Ontario universities to advise faculty and staff about issues and concerns on campus. They held varied reporting relationships within the university structure and officers often worked on status of women issues in conjunction with their regular full-time faculty and staff duties. The Carleton University Co-ordinator for the Status of Women attended conferences and meetings of affiliated bodies such as the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA) Standing Committee on the Status of Women and the Council of Ontario Universities (COU) Committee on the Status of Women. These committees created reports, briefs, and recommendations to facilitate equal treatment of women in education and employment.
