Administrative history

The Institute was created in 2007 under the name of INWES-Education and Research Institute. It was incorporated the 29th of November 2007 under the Canada Corporations Act. It was designated as a Charitable Organization on the 28th of February 2008.The organization name was changed in 2019 to The Canadian Institute for Women in Engineering and Sciences (CIWES).
Its activities are conducted through a board of directors and diverse committees.

Custodial history

Records were transferred to the Archives from Monique Frize, the first President of CIWES. Later records were transferred by Claire Deschênes.
An agreement (MOU) was established in 2022 that CIWES Board will regularly send records to ARCS at the end of each Board term.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of the records of INWES-ERI/CIWES including those related to its establishment and operations as well as the activities in which the organization is involved including projects such as the Canadian Archive of Women in STEM, books of women in STEM, conferences and workshops.
