Collection provides information on Laura Johnson in relation to her roles as a nursing student, both in Toronto and Winnipeg, and a public health nurse in Manitoba. Her records document her work, her research, her family history, and her travels in Iceland. The collection consists of pins, photographs, correspondence, notes, assignments, journals, and papers.

Biography/Administrative History: 

Laura Johnson was born in 1896 to Henrik and Oddny Johnson. Lundar, Manitoba was named by her parents when they settled there in 1888 in honour of their hometown in Iceland. Laura graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1926 and from the mid 1930s until 1959 worked for the Manitoba Department of Health as a Public Health Nurse. In 1932 she was the Public Health Nurse in The Pas, Manitoba, nine years later she moved to Ontario, graduating in Public Health from the University of Toronto School of Nursing in 1942. By 1943 she was the Supervisor of Public Health Nurses in Manitoba. Her career took her all over Manitoba.
