2020 Canadian #1Lib1Ref Campaign

The University of Ottawa Library participated in the #1Lib1Ref Canadian Friendly Contest organized by Wikimedia Canada from January 15 to February 5, 2020. The contest is part of the global campaign of #1Lib1Ref (One Librarian, One Reference) first launched in 2016. It encourages librarians around the world to add citations to Wikipedia in order to contribute to the reliability and credibility of humanity’s most consulted source of information.

As one of the 17 participating Canadian institutions, we added 156 references to 45 articles on Ottawa-related subjects in Wikipedia English, Wikipedia French, and Wikidata. We also created 12 new articles, including items in Wikidata about women from the Canadian Archive of Women in STEM collection. Since adding reliable sources to these articles in Wikipedia and Wikidata, they have been viewed 10,700 times.
