Since the beginning of the pandemic, several Canadian funding agencies have committed to ensuring research findings and data relevant to the COVID-19 outbreak are shared rapidly and openly to inform the public health response and help save lives. In aid of this commitment, the Library has created a guide “COVID-19 Rapid Response Data Sharing and Deposit Support" and is offering a two-part webinar series to help researchers, whether they have received COVID-related funding or otherwise, understand how and where to make their peer-reviewed research publications or preprints available in open access and how to make the underlying data clearly and widely available.
Note that the series is offered multiple times in both English and French. Visit the French version of this page to sign up for the French sessions. The webinars will be recorded and posted to the Library’s YouTube channel.
Part 1: Sharing Your Research Publications
The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrates the critical need to share research results freely and openly to address global challenges. Major funding agencies have offered rapid response funding to researchers working across disciplines to address pandemic-related research and technical challenges and many of these have endorsed the Joint statement on sharing research data and findings relevant to the novel coronavirus (nCoV). In this first webinar of a two-part series, you will learn how to make your publications available in open access, how to distinguish and apply open licences, and what supports are available to you at the University of Ottawa to further these objectives. This webinar is appropriate for a wide audience and is open to all researchers, whether they have received COVID-related funding or are working on COVID-related research or otherwise.
Presenters:
Mélanie Brunet, Copyright Services Librarian
Jeanette Hatherill, Scholarly Communication Librarian
Chantal Ripp, Research Data Management Librarian (Interim)

Part 2: Sharing your Research Data
The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the critical need to share research results freely and openly to address global challenges. Major funding agencies have offered rapid response funding to researchers working across disciplines to address pandemic-related research and technical challenges and many have endorsed the Joint statement on sharing research data and findings relevant to the novel coronavirus (nCoV). In this second webinar of a two-part series, we will demystify the copyright status of research data and the application of open licences, best practices in data sharing and deposit, and what supports are available to you at the University of Ottawa to further these objectives. This webinar is appropriate to a wide audience and is open to all researchers, whether they have received COVID-related funding or are working on COVID-related research or otherwise.
