Iberian Lives in Baroque Rome seeks to be a resource for scholars and those interested in early modern Rome, Iberian culture and early modern migrations. The data culled from Roman parish records held in the Archivio Storico del Vicariato di Roma (baptisms, deaths, marriages and especially the Status Animarum, the annual list of parishioners who could take communion, compiled by the parish priest of the parish) shed precious light on the Iberian men and women from Spain and Portugal who chose the Eternal City as their new place of residence between 1610 and 1650. The resource aims to provide as comprehensive a glimpse as possible into the world of this important community in early seventeenth century Rome who constituted one of the most visible and influential foreign groups in it. It will also offer insights as to their relations with Roman society, their integration into it and their rapport with other foreigners in the Eternal City.
