Iberians in Baroque Rome

View Fullscreen

The project seeks to map the presence of Spanish and Portuguese in Rome in the first half of the seventeenth century. The map used to represent the parishes and the urban configuration of the city of the time is the stunning panoramic 1642 view of the city by the Swiss engraver Matthäus Merien (1593-1650) which literally provides visitors to the site with a faithful representation of the city for which this data is being proposed. Parishes have been identified and brief descriptions in English of them are provided along with a useful link to an online version of the classic study of Rome´s parishes by Mariano Armellini (1852-1896) for each of them.
